Oh Canada!

Prince Rupert was our first stop back in Canada to top off our water and fuel, drop off some trash and go out for sushi.
Alden's new look helped us blend in with the locals.

We left on a foggy calm morning, marveling at the size of the tankers loading up along the channel. We continued marveling as one pulled out behind us and followed, then passed us, picking up speed as it left the channel.
The following wake was bigger than we would have thought possible. We realized, as it gained on us that it was moving fast and was very, very big.
It was too late to try turning the bow into it, so Alden pushed up the throttle and we prepared for a rear quartering monstrosity. Big mistake. It picked up the back of the boat, sending us shooting up and sideways, then dropped the rear end as the front bucked up and sideways and the next wave rocked us so hard to the side I thought we were going over for sure. I may have screamed. The next wave was even worse. A big clatter was going on below as all of our things smashed about. We were both gripping our seats as the following waves diminished in size. My heart was pounding and I'm sure my eyes were huge when I looked at Alden. Whoa!
A little scared and shaky, I went downstairs to investigate the damage, a few things were tossed about, the lamp had fallen over, the sugar container had spilled its contents all over the kitchen, along with some coffee, the dinghy has been knocked off kilter in its cradle and needed to be adjusted, and oh-so-sadly, our binoculars had been tossed from their cradle and were absolutely destroyed.

A little disgruntled, but happy to be alive and dry, we laughed the nervously. Our take away lessons were a little different. Alden's comment was something along the lines of, "that really gives you confidence in what the boat can take!" Mine was more like, " lets never do that again."

The rest of our day was lovely and we anchored in a beautiful spot, surrounded by high mountains, hidden away with only a tiny channel for an entrance.

Finding our way through Watt's Narrows to our home for the night.

Coming in to Baker Inlet.
