More Bella Coola

We were up and out the door early, eager to have a run while we had access to roads and trails. It was a beautiful, sunny morning. We ran the opposite way from town, up a forest service road, up steep hills and along a river. It was wonderful to stretch our legs. We saw the local dam and large-scale generator supplying power to the marina and the town. We also caught a glimpse of a black bear as it hurried across the road. We were very excited to see our first bear, and hopefully not the last!

Back at the ranch, we made hash browns and omelets and tried to get some business done while we had access to wifi. Our morning was so nice and relaxing we decided to spend another day at Bella Coola, rather than pushing on to the next place. We took our bikes into town to explore some more. The town is so small that everything is closed on Sunday, even the grocery store. We rode around the quiet streets and started down the highway where we found a short hike to a waterfall and explored the lovely forest.

Professor Alden likes to teach me things.

We rode back into town and found a little art shop opened. Alden bought me a pair of earrings to commemorate our visit. We rode back to the boat, stopping on the side of the road to pick handfuls of salmon berries and to take pictures of the breath-taking bay.
This is not a bear.

The water is a light, creamy green from the glacial till. The mountains rise steeply up and are snow capped, with clouds always hanging around their peaks. Lovely marshes line the edges of the bay. We drank it all in. Back on the boat we had a late lunch and started working on projects, taking advantage of our shore power and the beautiful sunshine.

This reminded me of some of our boat rides.
